USTA commits $150,000 to relief efforts in Haiti

The USTA has announced that it will donate $150,000 toward the ongoing relief efforts in earthquake-ravaged Haiti. The USTA will donate $100,000 directly to UNICEF, the United Nation’s children’s fund, and has contributed another $50,000 as part of the Grand Slam Committee’s donation of $200,000. This $50,000 contribution also will be directed to UNICEF’s Haitian relief efforts, which includes the delivery of vital medical and health supplies to the hard-hit country.

The Grand Slam Committee is comprised of the world’s four Grand Slam tennis events. The contribution will raise to more than $650,000 in overall donations by the tennis industry, including the four Grand Slams, both professional tours and many of the sport’s top players.

“On behalf of the entire USTA Family, the USTA Board of Directors is pleased to make a donation to support the relief efforts in Haiti. Our hearts go out to the people of Haiti at this time of overwhelming need,” said Lucy S. Garvin, USTA Chairman of the Board and President.

The USTA has a long history of donating funds to communities in crisis, as it did to the City of New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina In 2005.
