Message from SETTA President - Allison Getz

To all SETTA Members:

At the Feb. 9th SETTA board meeting, we adopted a rule that would restrict captains from adding new team members to their roster after league play has been 50% completed.  This rule was not communicated to all captains by the former league coordinator, and as a result, the rule was rescinded by the board at the request of the interim league coordinator. Subsequently, she sent out an email to ALL league captains stating “There will be no deadline to add players for the current adult league”.   A grievance was filed to disqualify a player that had been added after the deadline.   The grievance was granted, however an appeals committee overturned that decision.   As a result of this series of events, the board has decided to abolish the current local league rules and revert to the USTA rules governing league play.  Jon Williams, our new league coordinator, will consider whether or not we want to create new local rules. The rules which were last amended in 2008 had not been followed or enforced for the past 5 years and a change was needed. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me or any board member.  I hope this will bring closure to a difficult situation and we can again focus on the many positive efforts in our tennis community. I hope everyone will consider participating in our 91st annual Beaumont Labor Day Tournament.
