Many people have asked how they can help Sarah Smith and Lane Smith

Stephen Grohn has been a participant and part of our

tennis community for over the past 10 years. In case

you didn't know, his family was in a car wreck last

week(Saturday)in Houston...Stefanie, Susan, Micah are

all ok, but his daughter Sarah was unconscious at the

wreck site and has remained so. Sarah is in ICU at

Memorial Hermann in Houston, and the doctors are

puzzled as to why she does not wake up. All her brain

functions are normal and the ct scans don't show any

injuries, but she remains unconscious.  

Claude Guidroz spoke with Stephen Friday and found out even though Sarah has not yet opened her eyes, she did give him a hug when requested and she made the sign language for the letter "A" with therapist. The therapists have told the family that sometimes in response to trauma; the brain loses connections and pathways and must either reroute or reconnect these pathways. Steve said he did not even know that she knew sign language but it was the greatest hug he ever got!
